The Crazy, Fabulour Fifties!

The 50’s are a nostalgic time. Poodle skirts, loafers, curly hair products, straight hair grease, ponytails and Elvis Presley. Rock-and-roll was the hit of the era. The music of the 50’s lives on and even influences some of the music of today. Elvis became the icon of the era, starting with Heartbreak Hotel released in 1956 skyrocketing to top on the pop charts. In November of the exact same year, he made his film debut in Love me Tender. Elvis not only rode the appeal wave of the 50’s but likewise is thought about by numerous as one of the most important figures of the 20th century popular culture.Elvis wasn’t the only one shaking the phases in the 50’s: Gene Vincent, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Bobby Vee, Chuck Berry, and Neil Sedaka did their part to bring rock into every home where a teenager lived! Another genre of music introduced in the 50’s was the Doo Wop carried out by such greats as The Platters, The Flamingos, The Rollercoasters, and ever popular Drifters. Jazz also acquired prominence in the 50’s with Bebop, Tough bop, Cool jazz and the Blues. It wasn’t

simply music that was shaking and rocking the houses, hair styles for males were influenced by film stars like James Dean, Troy Donahue and obviously, Elvis Presley. The 50’s were a conservative time in American history, but not the hairdo for guys. The hairdos of the 50’s are unique and identifiable, the apache, the flat top crew cut, the ducktail, the pompadour and long sideburns.

The apache was the predecessor to the modern reverse Mohawk. The hair was cut close to the sides while the center cut was shaved. Thankfully, this design didn’t last long.

The flat leading team cut kept the young boys looking like an arm service posters. Hair directly up and after that cut near to the head. A generation was specified by this look. Who can forget the ducktail? The Elvis appearance. The sides of the hair slicked back and the top cut long with rugged edges for the ducktail. The pompadour was again, special to the 50’s, with curly hair products this design was a hit. The hair was stacked high in front and swept over the forehead with the sides flattened out.Oh the amazing 50’s, from Elvis Presley, the Doo Wop, Curly hair items, straight hair grease, poodle skirts, ponytails, Heartbreak Hotel, ducktails and crew cuts. It is a time never to be forgotten and always remembered with fond memories.
