You know it is really difficult when you are waiting for something to happen. You tend to examine things more frequently believing that it will happen faster. Like putting a pot on the stove to boil, all of us understand that a watched pot never boils, but we keep enjoying. That is how I feel now. Awaiting these lovely children eyes to open and see the world.
I have had pups open their eyes as early as 9 days and as late as 17 days, so it is constantly a waiting and guessing video game with pups I think. They seem to truly come alive once those eyes open. They truly have to see every part of their pen, having a look at every fold and crease in blankets, and toys are sooo much enjoyable. I wait soo impatiently for their eyes to open so I can start their training on ways to stand and where to put their feet when representing shows.
If somebody had actually just told me the sorrows of reproducing when I began, I think I would have run the other direction as quick as I could. There are a lot of heart breaks that simply seem to keep coming. And you cannot appear to throw sufficient money at an issue to make it disappear. However there will constantly be the sweetest times that might only be experienced by someone with a love of their type that can not be altered. When that pup takes his very first steady get out of his nest into that huge world, and you run over to make sure he doesn’t fall, your heart just sort of grows with the understanding that this tiny life was the product of numerous hours of research study, discomfort, tears, and work. Without you this pup might not have ever entered into the world.
This is most likely going to be the longest wait ever for me as this is an extremely important litter in my lines.
In some cases I relax and think about whatever that a breeder performs in a day and believe to myself, how do I discover the time??? There is sooooo much that needs to be done every day, that you often loose track of how important the little things are, like taking that 5 minutes that turned into 15 playing in the pup pens with them.
I did just that today. I let my outside life go a bit and beinged in the pens simply spending time with the new pups, two of them have opened their eyes, so they are beginning to track you and engage. When you hang around with the pups, time just seems to zip, like you simply sat down, and it has actually been an hour. I am really fortunate to be able to work from home and not get fired over such things. I just do not understand how they do it, the breeders that go off to work and do not have the time to simply stop and smell the young puppy breath.
Breeding is an enthusiasm for me and I want absolutely nothing more than to take the time to memorize pedigrees and to know the medical history of as numerous of the canines in them as possible. I got truly fortunate and have stumbled my way upon a couple of actually fantastic breeders that have been there for me when I practically fell on my face a time or 2 (ok, ok or more than that). I have also had the chance to have a few pet dogs from the Davishall line that I have actually contributed to my lines. I also have made a great good friend in Wade Davis and I am working hand in hand with him to develop my variation of the best Chihuahua.
I think that today was just another day in the life of a pet enthusiast …
